  • Crossbore Diameter: The large hole in the face of the door should be 2⅛ inches (54mm).

  • Backset: The distance from the door edge to the center of the crossbore should be 2⅜ inches (60mm) or 2¾ inches (70mm).

  • Door Edge Hole: The hole for the deadbolt latch should be 1 inch (25mm) in diameter .

Organize all components from the smart lock kit, which usually includes an exterior assembly, an interior assembly, a latch, a strike plate, a mounting plate, screws, and batteries .

🔧 Step-by-Step Installation Guide

Step 1: Remove the Existing Lock

  1. Use a screwdriver to remove the two screws connecting the interior thumb-turn plate to the door .

  2. Carefully pull the interior and exterior parts of the old lock off the door.

  3. Unscrew and remove the old deadbolt latch from the edge of the door .

Step 2: Install the New Deadbolt Latch

  1. Insert the new deadbolt latch into the hole on the door's edge, ensuring the "TOP" marking faces upward .

  2. If adjustable, set the backset of the latch by pushing or twisting the mechanism to match your door's measurement (usually 2⅜" or 2¾") .

  3. Secure the latch in place with the provided screws .

Step 3: Install the Exterior Assembly

  1. Before attaching, route any electrical cable from the exterior assembly underneath the installed latch .

  2. Insert the tailpiece (a flat, thin metal bar) on the exterior assembly through the center slot of the deadbolt latch mechanism .

  3. Place the exterior assembly into the crossbore hole, ensuring it sits flush against the door. You may temporarily use painter's tape to hold it in place .

Step 4: Install the Mounting Plate and Interior Assembly

  1. Slide the mounting plate onto the screws or threading from the exterior assembly on the interior side of the door. For some models, you may need to run the exterior assembly's cable through this plate first .

  2. Secure the mounting plate using the provided long screws. Tighten them firmly to hold the entire lock assembly stable .

  3. Connect the cable from the exterior assembly to the port on the interior assembly. Ensure the connector is fully seated .

  4. Place the interior assembly over the mounting plate, ensuring the thumb-turn is oriented correctly (often vertical for unlocked position). Secure it with screws .

Step 5: Install Batteries and Power Up

  1. Open the battery compartment on the interior assembly.

  2. Insert the required batteries (typically 4 AA batteries), observing the correct polarity.

  3. Close the compartment. The lock should power on, and you may hear it calibrate by locking and unlocking itself to determine the door's handing .

Important Safety Note:​ Do not insert batteries until the lock is completely installed to avoid accidental activation during setup .

  1. Calibrate the Lock: After power-up, many smart locks will automatically initiate a calibration sequence. You may need to manually trigger this by pressing a reset button with a provided tool for a few seconds until you hear a beep. The lock will learn its orientation .

  2. Download the App: Install the manufacturer's companion app (e.g., "Kaadas Home," "Lockin Smart") on your smartphone .

  3. Add the Device: Create an account in the app, then use the "Add Device" function. You will typically need to scan a QR code found on the lock's battery cover or interior assembly .

  4. Configure Settings: Follow the in-app instructions to connect the lock to your Wi-Fi network (ensure you are using a 2.4GHz network for compatibility ), update its firmware, and set up user access methods like PIN codes, fingerprints, or palm-vein profiles .

🧪 Testing and Troubleshooting

After installation, test all functionalities thoroughly :

  • Test locking and unlocking using all methods: the app, keypad, fingerprint sensor, and the physical backup key.

  • Check that the deadbolt extends and retracts smoothly without binding.

  • Verify auto-lock features work if enabled.

Common Issues and Solutions:

  • Deadbolt doesn't operate smoothly: This is often caused by misalignment. Ensure the strike plate on the door frame is perfectly aligned with the deadbolt. You may need to loosen the strike plate screws, adjust its position, and retighten .

  • Keypad/App not responding: Confirm the batteries are fresh and inserted correctly. Check that all internal cables are securely connected and not pinched .

  • Wi-Fi/App connection problems: Ensure your lock is within range of your router and that you are connecting to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network, not 5GHz .

✅ Final Checks

Once everything is working, do a final security check:

  • Ensure the door closes smoothly and locks without forcing it.

  • Confirm the lock sits flush against the door with no gaps.

  • Keep a physical backup key in a secure location outside your home in case of smart lock failure .
