How to reset schlage keypad lock

Resetting a Schlage keypad lock can typically be done in a few ways, depending on what you mean by "reset" (e.g., clearing all user codes, changing the programming code, or a factory reset). Here's a general guide for a factory reset, which will clear all user codes and revert the lock to its original factory settings.

Before you begin:

  • Make sure you have the programming code for your lock. This is usually a 6-digit code found on a sticker on the back of the interior assembly or in your user manual.

  • Be aware that a factory reset will delete all existing user codes and programming settings.

Steps for a Factory Reset (Schlage Connect Smart Deadbolt example):

  1. Disconnect the Battery: Remove the battery cover from the interior side of your lock and take out the battery pack.

  2. Locate the Schlage Button: While the battery pack is out, you'll usually find a small "Schlage" button (or a button with the Schlage logo) on the interior assembly.

  3. Press and Hold the Schlage Button: Press and hold this button.

  4. Reconnect the Battery: While still holding the Schlage button, reinsert the battery pack.

  5. Release the Schlage Button: Once the battery pack is fully inserted, release the Schlage button.

  6. Wait for Confirmation: The lock should now enter programming mode. You might hear beeps or see the keypad lights flash to confirm the reset.

  7. Enter New Programming Code (Optional but Recommended): After a factory reset, it's a good idea to create a new programming code.

    • Press the Schlage button.

    • Enter your old programming code (if you're just changing it, otherwise use the default if it reverted).

    • Press the "0" button.

    • Enter a new 6-digit programming code.

    • Press the Schlage button to confirm.

  8. Add New User Codes: Now you'll need to re-add any user codes you want to use.

    • Press the Schlage button.

    • Enter your programming code.

    • Press the "1" button.

    • Enter a new 4-8 digit user code.

    • Press the Schlage button to confirm. Repeat for any other user codes.

Important Notes:

  • Model Variations: The exact steps can vary slightly depending on your specific Schlage model (e.g., Encode, Sense, standard keypad lock). Always refer to your lock's specific user manual for the most accurate instructions.

  • Troubleshooting: If the reset doesn't work, double-check your battery strength and ensure you're pressing the correct buttons in the right sequence.

  • Professional Help: If you're still having trouble, contacting Schlage customer support or a local locksmith might be helpful.
